The Museums of Los Gatos hosts a Film screening of select films from the traveling media exhibition: â€œWater, Water Everywhere: Paean to a Vanishing Resourceâ€œ, curated byÂ Jennifer Heath.

Thursday, September 27,Â 7-9pm

Location: The Art Museum | 4 Tait Avenue

All other films fromÂ Water, Water EverywhereÂ willÂ be exhibited in conjunction with the current exhibitionÂ Shaped by Water: Past, Present and FutureÂ at the History Museum of Los Gatos from August 1-December 30, 2012. Visitors will have to opportunity to view films not featured in the screening throughout the durationÂ of Shaped by Water.Â These films will beÂ juxtaposed with historic film footage of Santa Clara Valley waterways.

Media Exhibition Description:

Water is the worldâ€™s most crucial commodity and the basis for all earthly life. Its preservation and protection may be our greatest environmental challenge.

WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE is comprised of 30-second to 30-minute videos from 40 artists worldwide exploring water issues from the political to the personal and from ethics to aesthetics, with works that are documentary, experimental, educational, humorous, solemn, animated or acted. WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE is designed to be a platform for discussion and action to bring to light the world water crisis and the sanctity of water and its sources.

Cultura21 is a transversal, translocal network, constituted of an international level grounded in several Cultura21 organizations around the world.

Cultura21â€²s international network, launched in April 2007, offers the online and offline platform for exchanges and mutual learning among its members.

The activities of Cultura21 at the international level are coordinated by a team representing the different Cultura21 organizations worldwide, and currently constituted of:

– Sacha Kagan (based in LÃ¼neburg, Germany) and Rana Ã–ztÃ¼rk (based in Berlin, Germany)
– Oleg Koefoed and Kajsa Paludan (both based in Copenhagen, Denmark)
– Hans Dieleman (based in Mexico-City, Mexico)
– Francesca Cozzolino and David Knaute (both based in Paris, France)

Cultura21 is not only an informal network. Its strength and vitality relies upon the activities of several organizations around the world which are sharing the vision and mission of Cultura21

Of Farms and Fables shows beauty, struggle of family farming – Theater – Portland Phoenix

An interesting show coming up in Portland, ME….

It’s all in a day’s work on a family farm. From pests to family strife to the game-changing scale of industrial farming, the challenges to the modern family farm are given unsentimentally resonant treatment in Open Waters Theatre Arts’ Of Farms and Fables, the theatrical culmination of several years of research and residencies on farms here in southern Maine.

With a script by Cory Tamler, direction by Jennie Hahn, and a cast that includes farm workers and children of farmers, this most recommended production runs October 27-30, at Camp Ketcha in Scarborough.

In Open Waters’ plain and simple billing, Of Farms and Fables is “a play about the people who bring you food.” A team of its actors, playwright, and director spent last summer working alongside those very people, the farmers and farm workers who sow and weed at Wm. H. Jordan, Broadturn, and Benson farms. After a season of learning their work, and of hearing their worries and joys, Open Waters’ artists turned to the task of making theater of the experience, to share with the public a nuanced look at the realities of family farming in the modern age.

Green Awards at LDI

LDI â€“ the countryâ€™s foremost entertainment industry trade conference – and ShowmanÂ Fabricators â€“ NYCâ€™s largest and most diverse scenic fabrication shop – are teaming together to bring to the forefront sustainability of the Entertainment Technology field.

Green Awards

One method to accomplish this will be to present two Green Awards at the LDI awards ceremony.Â The two awards are the Best Green Product Award and the Best Green Show/Project Award.Â These awards, in their inaugural year, will bring a focus to companies who have made strides in the greening of the entertainment technology field.

If you have participated in any shows or projects which have taken steps to create a greener production value, we invite you to nominate the show or project.Â We are not limiting the award to shows of a specific size, but rather encourage all those involved in shows or projects which have been able to integrate some measure of sustainability into their production to nominate that production.

nomination process

If you know of a show or event that has made strides, the nomination process is simple.Â The linked form will need to be filled out.Â Please be as descriptive as possible, and if you need additional space feel free to extend to a second page.Â This form is due by October 8^th.Â Additionally we will require a 2 minute or less electronic presentation (either PowerPoint or video) that will be used at LDI.Â Some presentations may be incorporated into the Green Day panels at LDI, and all events will be on display for three days as part of a Green Technology Today Showcase â€“ a booth about sustainability which will be on the tradeshow floor.Â These opportunities will give those in the entertainment technology industry a chance to see what you are doing.Â This presentation will need to be submitted by October 27^th.

criteria

Projects will be judged on several criteria including their originality, use of green techniques, environmental impact, and message to an audience.

Both awards will be presented at the LDI awards ceremony on November 21st however you do not need to be present to win.Â LDI will feature the award winners in their magazine and on their website.
