Showman Fabricators Celebrates Donyale Werle’s Tony win for Peter and the Starcatcher

After Donyale Werle’s win for best Scenic Design for a play at the Tony Awards last night, Showman Fabricators, who worked to bring the show to Broadway, sent an email to congratulate Donyale Werle on her Tony Award for Best Scenic Design of a Play for ‘Peter and the Starcatcher’. Saying “Building this set was an honor and pleasure.”

Best Scenic Design of a Play was 1 of 5 Tony Awards ‘Peter’ won last night. Donyale is very conscience about the environmental impact of her designs and material choices. We could not have been more proud to have built this show for her. Congratulations to Donyale as well as David Benken, Technical Supervisor and Patrick Eviston, Production Carpenter. And Donyale, thanks for the shout out during your gracious acceptance speech!

The challenge of achieving the triple bottom line

Conference 12 looks at the sustainable design, development and operation of theatre buildings in relation to environmental, economic and social disciplines, and the challenges of delivering sustainable theatres for future generations. The conference will look at what sustainable development now means for theatres, what opportunities exist for theatre buildings in the new National Planning Policy Framework, how funding programmes are now promoting more sustainable capital development of theatre buildings, and what is needed to ensure theatres can meet the triple bottom line head on and continue to thrive.

The conference will explore the way how theatre buildings have addressed the sustainability agenda and introduced new technologies and adapted to meet rising energy costs, tougher environmental building standards, economic constraints and the expectations of the audiences,Â and they will also share the experiences of the 48 London theatres on The Theatres Trust ERDF funded ECOVENUE project.

Conference 12 will be of interest to those trying to maximise economic, social and environmental returns from their theatre buildings through redesign, adaptation or new builds. It provides the opportunity to discuss these issues with other theatres, government and arts policy makers, theatre consultants and architects and take part in the debate.

A Call for Youth to Attend the International Climate Negotiations

SustainUS is accepting applications to go to the United Nations climate negotiations in Doha, Qatar.

All youth 18-26 are eligible to apply to attend as a youth delegateÂ in Doha, Qatar from November 26 to December 7, 2012. Before the conference youth train other youth to be adept at understanding international climate policy, lobbying, communicating with press, producing media and fund-raising. At the conference youth delegates collaborate with other international youth to bring a youth perspective to the negotiating table.

Applicants are required to be between the ages of 18 and 26 as of December 2012 and to either (a) be a US citizen or (b) have studied or worked in the US for more than six months. All application materials must be received by 5:00 pm EST on Sunday, June 17, 2012.

The 4th Sustainable Summer SchoolÂ« for students from all around the world starts on August 25th and ends September 3rd, 2012 in Helsinki.

This year the Sustainable Summer School is hosted by the Aalto University and takes place in Helsinki on Suomenlinna island. In the Sustainable Summer School the students will work together on different subjects in workshops â€“ conducted by experts. The summer school is completed by an expert day to provide the participants with up-to-date knowledge and deep insights in this years topic: Â»Sustainable TransitionÂ«. On Friday June 1, and Sunday June 3, New York’s premier reuse center,Â Materials for the Arts, will be the recipient of proceeds from screenings of One Day on Earth. Â It was made in 2010, and filmed in every country on earth on the same day. Â There will be a week of showings to benefit local charities in New York City.

Materials for the Arts is a program of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. Â It collects unneeded materials from businesses and individuals and donates them to arts programming across the city.
