This eBook analyzes current developments in the fashion industries related to the debate on the Cultural and Creative Industries. Recycling Games â€“ TerraCycle

TerraCycle creates national recycling systems for previously non-recyclable or hard-to-recycle waste. Anyone can sign up for these programs, called the Brigades, and send them waste. Then, the collected waste is turned into different products and materials available at major retailers.

Terracycle encourages teams from the 21 countries where their Brigades operate in to beat their personal and national records during the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. For every country which accomplishes the goal, all the participants who sent waste during the games will receive TerraCycle points. Also, all the shipments will be counted towards the global goal of collecting 4 million pieces of waste.

10 Days of Climate Action â€“ Call for Artists

10 Days of Climate Action is an initiative of the Human Impacts InstituteÂ to bring together artists, musicians and performers to install climate-inspired public works throughout New York City. In an effort to inspire New Yorkers to think more critically about our actions and their impacts, each day of 10 Days of Climate Action will present a climate theme and creatively engage the public in positive action around issues of climate change.

TheyÂ´re lookingÂ forward to submissions that push audience members to â€œthink outside the boxâ€, submissions from artists who intend to attack current and pressing climate issues through the creation of their work for a public setting and encourage them to find diverse sites and unique public settings.Â Each selected artist will be assigned a specific date to showcase their work during a ten day period in late September (21st-29th), as a part of the 4th Climate Week NYC, the annual global summit that takes place in New York City aiming to mobilize climate action.

Cash Prizes: 1st place â€“ $500; 2nd place â€“ $300; and 3rd place â€“ $200

IMAGINE 2020: Summer LAB. Art, climate change and sustainable development

IMAGINE 2020, Art and Climate Change, was created to increase awareness about the causes and effects of climate change and advocates changes to the cultural sector and society in genral. One of the network activities is the Summer Lab, in this event they bring together artists and professionals from diverse disciplines. The first edition took place in Montpellier, France, where 35 artists and scientists from all over Europe came together over 4 days.

This year, the Summer Lab is taking place in Torres Vedras (Portugal), from September 5th to 9th, 2012. In its 2nd edition, international artists, scientists and entrepreneurs will interact and share their creative and professional experiences during the discussion and development of a concrete project proposal that shares a vision for a low carbon future development of communities.

Musâ€™Art Cameroon seeks to twin with arts institution

Since its creation in 1996 Musa Heritage Gallery (shortened Musâ€™Art), named in memory of Nsoâ€™ carvers Daniel Kanjo Musa and his elder son John Yuniwo Musa, has been active in propagating the Nsoâ€™ cultural heritage.

This cultural initiative by the Musa family opened her doors to the public on 18th December, 1996. Musâ€™Art Gallery has a collection of over 400 objects, most of which were created between 1970 and 2000. These varied and diverse objects range from Bamboo work to Wood Carvings, Basketry to Pottery. The museum continues to acquire contemporary Cameroonian arts and crafts while maintaining a major focus on the Western Grass-fields region.

Musâ€™Art Gallery was created in part as to preserve in response to the loss of these precious objects, so the Art of the past is not lost to the region. Its mission is to support the arts and crafts of the Western Grass-fields and to highlight the excellence and diversity of regional artists, past and present, so these may become known nationally and internationally.

The art of Nsoâ€™ traditional wood sculpturing is fast disappearing. Most Nsoâ€™ renown carvers have died. Youngsters are unwilling to learn the art. Musâ€™Art Gallery is interested in a rebirth of Nsoâ€™traditional wood sculpturing as well as other traditional art forms such as weaving, basketry, bamboo work, knitting of traditional caps and other gadgets with raffia leaves or straw. In fact the arts and crafts industry in Nsoâ€™ if revamped can create a lot of jobs for young boys and girls, contribute to economic growth and fight unemployment.

The Musâ€™Art Gallery in Kumbo, Cameroun, is seeking to twin with a museum, gallery or other arts institution abroad, in order to open the door to new ideas, collaboration and joint programmes that will allow both partners to evolve.
